House Plants Help Reduce Anxiety?

Researching about anxiety and what can help prevent/calm I came across an article which states that having house plants in your bedroom can have an effect on your mental and physical wellbeing. House plants for anxiety help alleviate symptoms because they promote higher quality air. If you work inside or spend long hours in your home,  you’re breathing in indoor toxins on a regular basis. The quality of air plays a significant role in your overall health.

Many studies have shown house plants for anxiety to do the following:
  • Improve reaction times
  • Increase attentiveness
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Improve attendance
  • Improve well-being
  • Raise productivity
  • Improve perception
  • Lower levels of anxiety
  • Decrease mild depression
  • Increase self-satisfaction
The main plant to help prevent/calm is lavender. Lavender is one of the best natural anxiety treatments. Lavender’s scent has proven to lower heart rate, decrease stress levels, and lower blood pressure. It’s most commonly found in essential oils for anxiety, room sprays and bath products.
Researching into this has made me really think about using house plants as another starting point for my initial drawings. Plants (and gardening) have great ties helping to de-stress, so it would only make sense to incorporate this into my work!
