Week 2! Drawing and Research

This weeks group tutorial was an eye opener on how much more I need to be drawing and looking at more artists. I find seeing other peoples work really inspires me to want to do more. And my tutor also gave me a lot to think about whether print is actually for me as from my drawings and research it is apparent that I am much more of a structural textiles designer. So I have given myself this week to try and decide whether I should consider changing my specialist area, or at least speak to the knit/mixed media tutor to try get a better insight on where I see my practice going.
This week I have been trying to focus on the geometric side, again still trying to focus on grids as my main structure and also trying to look at artists who inspire me that focus on geometric shapes and patterns rather than just floral. One thing I discovered was that when working with geometric was that you need to be more precise and neat for it to produce a good outcome. With his pulling at my brain I decided to start a new sketchbook because most of my drawings/collages don't have the clean cut look, so this will inspire me to take extreme care when drawing geometric shapes.
Looking at the artist Alexander Calder has really inspired me most this week, especially his mobiles for the shapes and structure. It made me think that if i were to stick in print that I could incorporate 3D shapes and use them as beads, by either making my own from clay or by even using the laser cutter or 3D printer, but this is something I am going to look more into this next week coming and discuss with my tutor and peers.
